Table of contents

The table of contents lists the comments on the page (messages in AI chats) and the headings in them.

  • Comments are shown as “#number author (date)”. Gemini and ChatGPT don’t show a date for each message, so only the author (You / Gemini / ChatGPT) is shown.
  • As you scroll the page, the item you’re reading is selected in the table of contents.

The top of the table of contents has, from left to right:

PositionContents
LeftHeading levels to show
CenterThree buttons: “Reload table of contents”, “Go to top of page” and “Go to bottom of page”
RightButtons to change where the table of contents is placed

“Reload table of contents” rebuilds the table of contents, not the page. The table of contents updates automatically; use this when it gets out of sync. Going to the top or bottom scrolls the whole page on GitHub, and the chat area on Gemini and ChatGPT.

The table of contents can be placed in one of three positions:

  • The edge of the screen opposite the editor
  • Left of the editor
  • Right of the editor
